VIET NAM
VIET NAM
Vietnam has made outstanding progress toward SDG 1 (No Poverty), evolving from one of the world’s poorest countries into a lower‑middle‑income nation with a current poverty rate of about 1.9%. The goal has been fully integrated into national development strategies, supported by policies that promote inclusive economic growth and expanded social protection systems. Although some challenges persist, Vietnam is considered on track or maintaining achievement according to international assessments.
Key challenges include persistent multidimensional poverty in ethnic minority regions, limited social insurance coverage (only 27% in 2017), and the ongoing need to ensure that economic growth remains inclusive. In response, Vietnam prioritizes inclusive development, rural transformation, and strengthened social welfare systems, aligning these efforts with its long‑term ambition to become a high‑income country by 2045 while ensuring that no one is left behind.
