Brief description of its relationship with SDG-1

Switzerland faces ongoing challenges, with its score for SDG 1 decreasing despite strong institutional commitment. The country’s approach to SDG 1 (No Poverty) is twofold: it has effectively eradicated extreme poverty domestically while directing its international cooperation toward poverty reduction in vulnerable populations and developing countries. The 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy provides the overarching framework for addressing both national and global dimensions of SDG 1. However, recent data show an increase in the share of the population living below the national poverty line, signalling the need for renewed efforts to ensure inclusive and sustainable progress.

CURRENT CHALLENGES AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

Switzerland is advancing SDG 1 (No Poverty) both domestically and internationally by aiming to halve its national poverty rate by 2030, strengthening its social‑security system, and supporting global poverty‑reduction efforts through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Key initiatives focus on economic empowerment, vocational training, and financial inclusion, reflecting a dual commitment to reducing poverty at home while contributing to broader international development goals.
