PHILIPPINES
The Philippines’ relationship with SDG 1 (No Poverty) is significant, as a large share of its population remains vulnerable despite recent economic growth. Poverty has declined from 18.1% in 2021 to 15.5% in 2023, reflecting ongoing progress. The country aligns its efforts with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and “AmBisyon Natin 2040,” focusing on social protection, food security, and economic inclusion. However, challenges persist due to natural disasters, inequality, and the large informal sector, which continue to hinder further poverty reduction.
Supported by the United Nations, the Philippines focuses on social protection, disaster resilience, and inclusive economic growth to tackle poverty. Several government initiatives contribute to this effort, including the Alkansssya Program, the Sustainable Livelihood Program, and KALAHI-CIDDS. However, key challenges remain, such as income inequality, unemployment, climate vulnerability, and regional disparities.
