Brief description of its relationship with SDG-1

Italy faces ongoing challenges, with progress on SDG 1 decreasing despite being formally assessed as on track or maintaining achievement. The country treats SDG 1 (No Poverty) as a high‑priority and complex objective, focusing on reducing both absolute and relative poverty—particularly in the South and among vulnerable groups—while also contributing to global poverty‑reduction efforts through its international development aid. 

CURRENT CHALLENGES AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

As of 2024–2025, Italy continues to face significant challenges related to regional disparities, persistent poverty risks, and the growing presence of the working poor. Key obstacles include enduring poverty levels, the impact of global crises, and a gradual weakening of social‑protection mechanisms. To advance SDG 1 (No Poverty), Italy is implementing a range of national policies, including strengthened social‑protection measures, the National Strategy for Sustainable Development (NSDS), and targeted interventions under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
