FRANCE
France is considered to have achieved SDG 1, although its progress is stagnating or advancing at less than half the required rate. The country maintains a strong commitment to eradicating poverty both domestically and internationally, yet persistent inequalities continue to pose challenges. As of 2026, France aligns its development policies with the 2030 Agenda, prioritising social protection, reduced inequality, and international solidarity as central pillars of its approach to SDG 1.
France advances SDG 1 (No Poverty) through a broad, articulated, and deeply integrated national approach that places the eradication of extreme poverty by 2030 at the very centre of its social vision. This commitment unfolds through the continuous strengthening of social‑protection systems, the safeguarding of food security for all, and a sustained dedication to international solidarity as a guiding principle of its global engagement.
A particularly strong emphasis is devoted to reducing both income‑based and gender‑based inequalities, which continue to represent some of the country’s most persistent and structurally rooted challenges. By weaving together these priorities into a coherent and forward‑looking strategy, France seeks to build a society in which vulnerability is progressively diminished, opportunities are broadened, and the promise of a more equitable future becomes increasingly tangible.
